Pick n Pay women’s walk rounds off Oyster Festival

knysna-oyster-fest-2014Don’t miss your chance to walk for this excellent cause

If you’re planning to be at this year’s Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, then make sure you don’t miss the Pick n Pay’s Women’s Walk, which will set off from the Festival grounds on Sunday 12 July 2015 at 8am.

As always, the walk isn’t restricted to women, so feel free to bring along the whole family and your friends – all are welcome for this fun, untimed, 5-km walk.

The walks are held all around South Africa to raise funds for PinkDrive, a public benefit organisation that provides free breast-cancer screening for women around the country. PinkDrive is present at every walk where they offer free breast examinations, as well as the opportunity to talk to a representative about any breast-related matters.

A walk village will be set up at the festival grounds, which will also be the start and finish points of the walk; and walkers can look forward to entertainment courtesy of local performer Heather Waters and Nuline Dance Academy. Curves will be doing a warm-up to make sure your muscles are ready for the walk and even the Knysna’s Mayor Georlene Wolmarans will be making an appearance at the event!

Sound good? Then get down to any of the Pick n Pay stores listed below or enter online to book your spot and help support this great cause.

The PinkDrive team is present on walk days at all Pick n Pay Women’s Walks. With the aid of ambassadors from each region who volunteer to tell their stories, many women – and men – are made more aware about the importance of cancer screening.

The PinkDrive currently runs two ‘Pink’ mobile breast check units (one in Gauteng and the other in the Western Cape). The Educational unit travels to semi-urban areas to enable targeted disadvantaged communities to gain access to clinical breast examinations and breast health education performed by professional nurses.
